Last year, in conversations with 600 parents, we heard why so many kids hated school—dehumanizing policies like silent lunches, limited bathroom access, and basic needs treated as privileges.
In response, we launched our Joy Campaign to demand better—to make schools vibrant places where kids want to be; where play, exploration, and support help them grow. Since then, we’ve made real progress: winning commitments to create the District’s first recess policy and end collective punishment, while fighting to protect our most vulnerable families.
Even as our schools and communities face new threats from the federal government, we remain committed to our vision: schools must be welcoming, affirming, and healing spaces that honor every child’s dignity and self-determination.
Now, we’re taking the Joy Campaign to the City Council—because every child deserves care. Join us at City Hall (Room 400) on March 24, 10 AM–12 PM, as we push for a Chief of Joy, expanded mental health supports, and a fundamental shift in how schools work.
We’ll stand with principals, school workers, and parents to demand action:
End dehumanizing, anti-Black practices like bathroom restrictions and silent lunches.
Secure basic standards for engaging learning, movement, and wellness.
